I like the concept in FATE, where a GM can 'compel' a player by offering them fate points and would like something that creates a similar dynamic, but which aligns character and player desires alike, say between the PCs and Dark Gods instead of what I have above. There are aspects of this system I really like, but it just seems very heartless and mathematical to me. Dark Gods can tempt the characters but I don't have a mechanic tied to that, so far just that resistance is based having more light essence.The player picks three Values for his character, actions taken in game that allign to those values reduce dark essence or add light essence.They can keep the white die instead of the black die, but loose a point of light essence to do so.They can keep the black die instead of the white die, and convert it to a bonus at the cost of gaining a point of dark essence.Characters have Light Essence (representing order) and Dark Essence (representing chaos), they can change the dice roll above.They only keep the die with the lowest numerical value, but the black die subtracts from their success value, and white adds to it.PCs roll 2d10 (one white, one black) + attributes, skills, equipment, etc.I'd like the players to feel the temptation. There was some good ideas there, but it doesn't seem to quite fit the bill. The only clear corruption and redemption mechanics I recall are from the old Star Wars RPG by West End Games. However, I put something functional together but as I work, this theme is becoming central to game-play, I really want something that is going to shine. I am working on a system with a strong theme of corruption and redemption.
